Quick Fire Questions
What is your favourite tennis shot?
My forehand. I used to have a t-shirt that said don’t feed the forehand.
Who is your favourite tennis player?
Ok, I can’t choose just one. Growing up it was always Tim Henman. C’mon Tim! He was really fun to watch and every match was a rollercoaster. Nowadays, of course, I have to mention Andy Murray. He has done so much for the game and inspired so many people to pick up a racket. To finally see a British male player win Wimbledon twice in my lifetime is amazing but if we are talking absolute favourite then of course its Rafa! The absolute best. On the women’s side, obviously Serena Williams is the goat and I’m enjoying watching Emma Raducanu.
What inspired you to become a tennis coach?
I grew up playing tennis against a wall in my garden with my mum and brother. Taking this onto the court, entering competitions, I just fell in love with the game. I studied History at university but I just wanted to be on the court. I started my first tennis coaching business ‘Topspin Tennis’ in 2006 and this has now adapted to Paul Armstrong Tennis. The freedom of being my own boss and teaching people how to improve their game, to get fit and have fun are some of the reasons that I wanted to be a tennis coach.
